After a careful search and considering my large experience as a Dancer and Teacher, I truly believe these are the main benefits of practising Oriental Dance in a regular basis as it brings numerous benefits in many different aspects - physical and psychological. Let me mention some of the most visible and important points:
PHYSICAL BENEFITS:
- An Oriental Dance class provides a great fitness exercise. You can burn lots of calories, being an advantage for the weight loss process or even as a great body detox workout;
- It helps to tone your body and sculpt the waistline: it tones the muscles of the abdomen, legs, arms, back and buttocks;
- Increases body flexibility and endurance;
- Increases and activates blood circulation;
- It helps to relieve back and joints pain by working our body articulations and improving its' condition;
- Corrects and re-educates body posture;
- Develops body coordination and improves balance shaft;
- In women helps to relieve P.M.S. and prepares them for childbirth.

PSYCHOLOGICAL BENEFITS:
- It helps to develop our self-esteem: we begin to observe and realize that we have many qualities that may never have been worked before;
- It stimulates our sensuality in an elegant way, allowing ourselves to connect and enjoy with our senses (personally I think is the true meaning of sensuality in Oriental Dance);
- Promotes self-acceptance (as charming, distinctive and beautiful individuals that we are);
- Develops mental agility, concentration and focus (either through the music either through the movement);
- Stimulates Creativity;
- It develops sensory perception: when working dance sequences we create self-awareness in a way that music reading is decoded through precise movements which put us in touch with our inner-self and emotional universe;
- In this way, the shyness that often disrupts the learning process is worked slowly, improving as well our social and personal relationships;
- It relieves quotidian stress through the contact and interaction with other people allowing the exchange of information and life experiences as so developing the ability to sublimate life challenges,
- It helps to develop and create goals and boundaries in our personal and social life: we begin to stand for principals, ethics and moral values which comes within the History and Culture of Oriental Dance. Therefore we start building a more positive lifestyle with more self-awareness and love for the self. This is the reason why Oriental Dance as an Art form is so empowering.
The joy in dancing is something which is acquired on a daily basis. Indeed, Oriental Dance is a pleasure for life.
